Impressions from our conducting workshop

Participants
The first conducting workshop has taken place!
Normally, conducting studies are only reserved for professional musicians who have already had a promising career as instrumentalists or singers.
We wanted to change this and, in collaboration with Mario García Ramos, a successful conductor and pianist, offer a workshop aimed at non-professional musicians.
The workshop is aimed at people who can read easy scores and, in general, at all amateur or semi-professional musicians who want to learn how to conduct a real orchestra under professional guidance.
Participants aged between 11 and 70 took part in the first workshop.

Workshop schedule

The participants were allowed to choose a piece themselves in advance, which they could then conduct in the workshop.
The workshop consisted of a three-hour individual session with Mario García Ramos, an hour-long conducting session with a professional string orchestra, individual and collective feedback sessions afterwards and a video recording for post-processing.
The program included:
- Grieg: Two Elegiac Melodies op. 34
- Bartok: Divertimento for string orchestra op. BB118
- Vivaldi: The Four Seasons
- Sibelius: Impromptu for strings
It was a varied program with different levels of difficulty, in which the participants were able to try out different aspects of conducting technique and explore rehearsal and performance techniques for the works.
Learning from others
During the conducting sessions, one person is actively conducting at a time. The others can observe.
«You often learn more by observing than by conducting yourself. You see how the ensemble reacts to the conductor and can deduce what works and what doesn't.»

The next workshop is already being planned. If you are interested in conducting a real ensemble and learning what you need to pay attention to, you can register now:
As soon as we have received enough registrations, the dates will be coordinated.
