"As a child, I was a radio you couldn't switch off."

Metò doesn't remember exactly when she started singing. It must have been very early, because music has played a big role in her life ever since she can remember. Laughing, she says: "My mother compared it to a radio that you couldn't turn off."

First she sang at home with her father, soon she joined the children's choir, later the music school, where she also played the piano. When she entered grammar school, it was clear that she chose the musical profile. So she continued to sing often and with pleasure. Stylistically, she acquired a broad repertoire - from classical music and musicals to pop and jazz.

Medicine instead of music - and a break of several years.

At first she flirted with studying singing, but then decided on human medicine. As a result, singing disappeared from her life for the first time. But after a four-year break, she realised in 2022 that something was missing. Using a search engine, she first found Instrumentor and there her future singing teacher Valérie. "Her profile appealed to me very much, so I booked a trial lesson. Afterwards, I realised how much I had missed singing," she explains.

Metò realises that singing is the same as riding a bicycle: Once you learn something, you never forget it. She quickly returned to her old level, but with Valérie she refocused on classical music.

She likes this very much for singing because it is intense and uses her whole body. Good posture is just as important as correct breathing. "When I sing, I can forget about everyday life and switch off my head. Afterwards I feel similar to how I feel after sport," she elaborates.

It also explains why the soprano singer tries to take a singing lesson every week, despite demanding studies with an irregular schedule.

Maybe Metò will have a performance again sometime.

As a schoolgirl, Metò was often on stage. Of course she had stage fright before each performance, but it quickly disappeared. "As soon as I sang the first note, I was fully focused," she recalls. She found it especially nice to perform in front of family and friends and to look at proud and beaming faces afterwards: "Of course it's good to get confirmation that a performance was successful."

Today she sings "only" for herself and her family. She likes to share recordings of her songs with the latter. She doesn't have time for a band at the moment, but she doesn't want to rule out performing in the future: "Maybe I'll sing in front of an audience again someday, who knows."

Instrumentor allows her to have the lessons she wants.

It was a coincidence that Metò ended up at Instrumentor. The fact that she is still enthusiastically taking singing lessons after a year is not: "With my everyday life, it is important that I can book lessons flexibly. Sometimes I sing at 9 in the morning, sometimes in the evening. It's no problem at Valérie."

She also appreciates the fact that the lessons are more relaxed than she was used to at school. Because there are no grades, there is no pressure. The exchange with Valérie takes place at eye level, Metò can decide for herself which songs she wants to sing. Together they started with baroque works and are currently practising many pieces by Mozart.

Metò likes to talk about her singing experience, her eyes light up. She could go on chatting for a long time, but everyday life calls: exams for her studies are coming up soon. But precisely because of the stress, she tries to sing regularly even during these hectic days.
